A little bit random, but...

I don’t much like housework. Surprised? Probably not. I do like a clean and well organised home. I just don’t have one. I feel happy when looking through a Howard’s Storage world brochure- imagining if MY house were like that… oh my...

Doing the dishes is a particular pain, yes? Only because it needs to be done several times a day, and my dishpan hands are already quite unsightly. You all know what I am talking about.

But this afternoon I found a way to actually enjoy myself. Music while house working is not a new concept of course, but sometimes it take me a while to catch on. I popped some Faure on the iPod and suddenly felt like I was all beautiful and poignant and doing a beautiful and poignant task… and reminiscing about when I was alright at playing the piano. Was never good enough for Faure though.

Anyways, the lesson I learned today is that there is a lot to be said for carefully choosing the sound track to your life.

I totally agree!

When bubba was first born I cut out the music so he could sleep and get into a routine. Then I realised that he can sleep through almost anything and will listen to anything (except the vacuum cleaner).

There really is a huge difference between doing the house work to, say, John Butler Trio or Rage Against the Machine. It is also fun to listen to soundtracks. Like while listening to 'Amelie', I can imagine that I am in France and waiting to go on an adventure. Crazy? Maybe. But it gets the house work done!

It also reminds me. My friends used to play a game called 'best songs to fall asleep too' or 'best song to dance to'. But this game is 'best songs to clean too'. Getting old?

Yep, I totally get where you are coming from. And hey, if it works, go with it sister! I accidentally tuned in to an info-mercial today about the "hottest new dance/exercise craze in the U.S"....the Zumba!! Pretty intense, maybe that would be a good housework workout routine! (For just four monthly payments of....)

Deal. I'll give it a shot tomorrow early in the morning. If I'm after a clean and tidy house, I'll still be going way into the night, so imagine I can get through a few grooves along the way! (have a fab tidy house weekend - or doesn't yours last anymore than twelve hours either?)

I'll have to try that one. I'm terrible about putting off housework.

That's a good reminder for me to try music therapy... sounds like we're on the same page regarding housework. It's just so relentless. But it's always better when I do it mindfully, trying to enjoy the moment rather than get through it. Music could help!
And I like that you listened to Faure. Beautiful.

I too hate washing up, but for some now unfanthomable reason, when we had our kitchen redone about 18 months ago, I said NO to dishwasher. It was partly needing as much storage as possible and a lot to do with not wanting to commit to another electrical appliance and the perceived lack of water. Considering how often I do dishes (I reckon about 6 times a day) - what made me think that was more efficient?

Yes housework really does suck. But when the music is on, it makes it a whole lot easier.
