A very pink cake

One of the items on my to do list yesterday what "Do something fun with Jems." It's a bit sad that I needed to list it, but sometimes I get so caught up in what-needs-to-get-done that I just leave her to her own devices, or drag her along with me to the shops or what-not.

I asked her what activity she would like to do, and she wanted to make a cake, which boiled down to "decorate a cake and eat it" with further questioning. So we bought a sponge from the supermarket and decorated when we got home. A bit of a cheat, but she still got to lick the spoon so she was happy.

By the way, I have changed my header to a photograph taken by my sister a month ago or so. I have more to share over time but this is one of my favourites. It really captures Caleb. Can't wait to get this one on one of the (still bare) walls at home.

Ooh, that cakes looks seriously good.I know what you mean, I have to add 'fun'to my to-do list too. It's a good reminder to do something specifically kid-focused, and I always feel bad that I have to actively remind myself... Love the light in that Caleb photo.

Whew! I'm not the only mom that gets so caught up in the day- to- day- what- needs- to- be- done and feel like I am not spending as much time as I want with my kids!

Nothing wrong with scheduling some fun - its just so easy to get caught up in the mundane. Nothing mundane about that glorious pink cake.

Ooooh, I like the sounds of cheat cake decorating! Icing it is the most fun bit after all. The cake looks lovely.

The new header is great. What a fantastic photo. Looking forward to seeing more.

I know exactly what you mean about needing to list the kid-fun stuff, especially for the middle child who likes to potter.....I think I'll pop your cake idea on the to do list for tomorrow when I may get a bit of time with said middlie (if only I had not finished off the last of the cooking chocolate tonight!)

That photo is awesome, I was struck by it as soon as I 'landed'.

Good work Jem on the fabulous cake decorating, you have a real talent there!! Licking the spoon is still the best bit I agree :)

I did notice your new photo before and thought how wonderful it was was, definitely needs a wall space!
